The Vics and Harwood played the deciding match in Hickson on Tuesday night with
Fink facing Gillow on the mound.  Ayr struck early in the first inning as Sherk was
plated by a Thomson single then Mitchell lifted a sac fly to score Gillow and give Ayr a
2-0 lead.  Harwood responded in the 2nd inning with Richardson and Killing cashing in
Fuller and Faulhaufer respectively.  Chad Wells started the 3rd with a single and was
bunted over by Sherk.  Wells then advanced to third on a passed ball and on another
errant pitch he scampered home to put Ayr back in the lead 3-2.  Gillow held strong
until the fifth inning when the Harwood bats exploded.  Klingenberg opened with a
dinger then Wylie drilled a ball to right that eluded the fielder and went to the wall
allowing him to round the bags and score.  After the next two reached base the ball
was handed to Thomson to try and escape however Faulhaufer drilled a ball down the
left field line to score a pair and he later scored on a sac fly by Fred Killing to give
Harwood a 7-3 lead.  Ayr tried to mount a comeback in the 6th as Thomson singled
then advanced on an error.  Bob Burgess took over on the mound and shut down the
Vics although Thomson was able to score on a groundout by Freeman to close the
gap to 7-4.  In the 7th it was Graham Scott who led off by drilling a ball through the
shortstop however he was stranded on base as the top of the order could not reach
base.  Harwood completed yet another come-from-behind victory and took the first
round series 3 games to 2.
